Introduction and Purpose

This survey seeks to identify areas where health researchers may need additional support or information about social media use in their work. We will use survey findings to develop informative handouts related to the top areas of need and make them available as part of a digital social media toolkit.

How are we approaching this?

Our research team is asking health researchers to complete a brief online survey to help us identify areas where they would like additional information about using social media professionally. We are hoping that a minimum of 50 health researchers will participate in this survey.

What will I be asked to do?

Participating in this study involves completing a brief online survey (approximately 10 minutes). You will be asked questions about your professional social media use, areas where you need more information, and some basic demographic questions to help us understand the type of health researchers who completed the survey.

Potential harms and burdens

There are no expected harms or benefits as a result of your participation in this study. You can skip any questions that you would prefer not to answer

Do I have to participate?

Before you begin the survey, we want you to know that you do not have to take part.

Can I withdraw from the study?

Taking part in the study is entirely voluntary (your choice). You can choose to withdraw from the study at any time by exiting the survey. Your partially completed survey data may still be used.

Costs and reimbursements

There are no costs associated with participating in this study. If you chose to do so, you could provide your name and email at the end of the survey and you will be entered to win an online gift card worth $100CDN. Your answers to the survey will not be linked with your identifying information.

Are there any conflicts of interest?

There are no conflicts of interest related to this study.

What about possible profit from the commercialization of the study results?

There are no possible profits from the commercialization of study results.

How will my privacy be protected?

Information shared while participating in this study will be kept private. Individual participants’ answers will be linked to a study ID and will not be linked to your name or email prior to analysis. All attempts at maintaining confidentiality will be taken. No individualized results will be reported.

Responses to the online survey are collected using Opinio survey software and are stored on a protected server at Dalhousie University. Study documents are stored at the Centre for Pediatric Pain Research at the IWK Health Centre. Only research staff and the IWK Health Centre’s Research Ethics Board will have access to study information. Study data will be kept for a minimum of 5 years following publication.

What are my research rights?

If you are interested in participating, please click the ‘I agree’ button. Completion of the survey indicates that you have agreed to take part in this research and for your responses to be used. In no way does this waive your legal rights or release the investigators, sponsors, or involved in situations from their legal and professional responsibilities.
